Who represents me on East Devon District Council?

Cllr Ian ThomasI’m Ian Thomas, elected in October 2009 and re-elected in 2011 to serve Trinity Ward on East Devon District Council (EDDC).

I live locally in Uplyme, and have been married to Sue for 29 years. We have six children, from 9 to 22 years old, and run the Lyme Alpacas herd from our farm on Ware Lane, near to Ware Cross. You may have spotted the distinctive black farm Land Rover!

In May 2011 I was appointed to the East Devon District Council as Portfolio Holder for Corporate Services and Cabinet Member.

In this role I am responsible at EDDC for;

Communications

Consultation Strategies

Democratic Renewal

Democratic Services and Councillor Development

Electronic Government

Human Resources (HR)

ICT Strategy

Legal Services

& Rural Broadband

In addition, I serve on a number of District Council and related bodies, particularly relevant to Trinity Ward;

Panels and Forum Membership;
Member Development Working Party.

Joint Bodies Membership;
East Devon Highways and Traffic Orders Committee.
Seaton Regeneration Board – Responsible for guiding the regeneration of Seaton, as a representative of Axmouth.
Local Joint Panel.

Representative on Outside Bodies;
Devon Conservation Group
South West Councils
(formerly SW Branch of the Local Government Association) (Deputy)

I focus particularly on a number of important local Trinity issues;

Trinity Broadband Action Group – I Chair a small focussed team, committed to ensuring the commercial and social viability of our rural areas, centred on Combpyne-Rousdon, by the provision of a high quality broadband service.

Mrs Ethelstons School, Uplyme - I Chair the team of Governors and local residents, working to safeguard the future of primary education in Uplyme village, by the delivery of a new school.

Protection of Axmouth from the road traffic impact of the regeneration of Seaton. As Ward member, I am at the vanguard of the campaign to protect the listed buildings, residents, visitors and environment of Axmouth and the safeguard the future of this important historic settlement.

Former Committee Memberships:

May 2010 to April 2011 : Development Management Committee – Most planning issues are dealt with under ‘delegated powers’ by the Head of Planning. When a matter is considered more contentious it is dealt with by this committee.

My objectives as the representative of Trinity Ward residents in Axmouth, Combpyne-Rousdon and Uplyme are;

1. To work to improve the health, safety, prosperity and happiness of all Trinity residents equitably.

2. To ensure that Trinity Ward residents and businesses are the best Informed in Devon and beyond, are well placed to take part in Consultation on all significant issues, and comfortable to Participate in shaping the future of our beautiful Ward on the East Devon Jurassic Coast.

If you have any comments on this website, concerns about our Ward, or innovative ideas for developing the economy of Trinty and preserving our environment, please let me know.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
